Putting God above everything else in our life requires continuous awareness of our treasures on earth. Any one of us can be tempted to put things of this world above our relationship with God.
Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)
King Solomon’s reputation led to great riches. He accumulated “things”: shops, horses, gold, chariots, palaces, and more, his life was filled with treasures.
King Solomon asked God for wisdom to rule the nation and God gave it to him. (Kings 3) you would think with all the wisdom and riches he had, it should NOT have gone to his head, but it did.
It’s important we all ask God regularly to show us if any of our earthly possessions or desires are getting in the way of our walk with Him. I recently had victory not purchasing something I wanted so badly in a catalog. I knew I shouldn’t make the purchase. I had enough. I had the money, that wasn’t the point.  I had enough. So, I had to pray through it for several days. When I finally prayed once and for all and threw the photo of the temptation away, I had victory! Not always easy and this may be a small deal, but small things lead to big things and we must keep ourselves in check. I am still praising God over that victory from a few days ago.
Ask God for strength to resist any temptation within our hearts that will turn us from Him or lead to problems that can take alter the course of our “God-focused” path of life.
